My name is Dana Young, an 18-year-old student athlete from Baltimore. I currently play wide receiver on the football team. In the classroom, I major in communication studies while also minoring in marketing, and one day I hope to make a lot of money as a lead partner in a marketing firm.
Personally, I’m not averse to writing, I would almost say I have a passion for it. Once I get the ball rolling and get rid of my writer’s block words seem to flow endlessly. I like the way that I can make words flow together and not only understand; but also enjoy one of my writings. Most of the writings that I’ve had to do have been for class so I haven’t written much poetry. The prose that I have written has always been academic so the subject matter is always novel or research based. The courses that I’ve studied have been British literature, American literature, and world literature.
By far my best teacher was a Mr. Raymond Brown, he challenged me to reach new heights I could have never imagined myself reaching. He taught me how to view literary works through a number of different lenses to actually evaluate words for what they truly mean. On the other hand, my worst teacher would probably be Ms. Kelly Christ who never helped to groom me into a better writer or student. The things she taught me were centered around making me better person and for that I will always appreciate her.
Although I like to write, I don’t like reading as much. Usually I have trouble focusing which will lead to disinterest. The last book that I read was George Orwell’s 1984 which I didn’t enjoy very much. I think that there is a direct correlation between reading and writing. The more you read the better writer you’ll become in a directly proportionate ratio. I hope to become a better writer whose words flow cohesive and fluid across the entire paper. I would like to write paper that has strong and clear points stated to avoid having a weak argument. Lastly, I’d like to become better at writing papers that are concise and still have a strong product.
